Radical Chic: A Contemporary Italian Restaurant in Hong Kong

A Gallery-Inspired Minimalistic Interior

The design team at Haven Design Limited took inspiration from contemporary art galleries to create a sleek and modern interior for Radical Chic. The main objective was to create a gallery-like space that would complement the Italian delicacies served in the restaurant.

One of the standout features of the design is the use of contrasting colors inspired by the spectrum of the sky. Different zones within the restaurant are allocated with muted earth tones of dusk, vivid blues of a sunny day, and vibrant oranges of a sunset. This harmoniously chic color scheme adds depth and visual interest to the space.

The interior of Radical Chic is curated with carefully selected materials in an earth tone palette. Highly textured white walls provide a clean and sophisticated backdrop, while eye-catching orange velvet, sensual sheer fabrics, and custom-designed wall-to-wall carpets add warmth and texture to the space. Handpicked wall lights and bespoke furniture complete the contemporary aesthetic.

The design also takes into consideration the restaurant's location and the changing ambiance throughout the day. During daytime, the panoramic view of the city becomes a focal point, while at night, the darker exterior creates a contrasting spatial sense. To address this challenge, an array of adjustable and flexible lighting systems are used to switch focus from the view to the artwork and interior in the evenings.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a dim sunset-orange light at the reception, setting the tone for their dining experience. They then walk through a wine cellar before reaching the welcoming bar, where they can enjoy a drink while taking in the breathtaking open view of the city.

Completed in June 2021, Radical Chic is a testament to the seamless integration of art, design, and gastronomy. It offers a pristine white space that is both visually stunning and inviting, providing the perfect setting for a superb Italian dining experience.

This design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative qualities. Haven Design Limited's Radical Chic exemplifies industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world through its fulfillment and positive ambiance.
